Hi! My name is Kate. I like making a mess.......so this first blog post will probably be a bit of one.

Firstly I acknowledge that some of you are here to look at pretty pottery, some of you are here to find out more about who I am and what I do, and quite frankly some of you may just be here to pass time while you are on the loo. That's okay. Its all going to be here so pop back in any time.

Here's some useless info about me:

I am generally quite judgy

I have a propensity to try to control most people and things (I begrudgingly fail it it often)

I self deprecate 99%of the time

I have many children

I never plan or organise

I always have one whole couch covered in washing that needs folding

I swear....like, a LOT

And lastly, I am always procrastinating...or am I?

Let me also warn you that I have a tendency to ramble but to be honest I'm certain that no one I haven't forced, will ever actually be reading any of this, ill continue to update anyways (especially when there are more important things to do)

Today my poor friend B spent 3.5 hours helping me with my website, she may very well have since wandered off into oblivion never to return just so she doesn't have to face any more of my problems. I spent most of those hours trying to remember passwords and usernames...this perfectly summarises a large part of my personality MESSY!!! Hence my love for clay, you can just drift away from all tasks at hand and end up feeling like you have just had a massage, a bottle of wine, received your first love letter and taken a vacation. Yes I find it that cathartic.

I first fell in love with clay in high school, art class was all I looked forward to and my very first clay pot still lives (albiet hidden on the top shelf in our shed where it got put as soon as my husband inherited it when I first moved all of my belongings into our house at Moffat Beach 21 years ago)

about 4 years ago I rekindled my love for clay with a few (Heaps of!) pottery classes and I have never looked back. The beginning of Moffat Beach Pottery is by no means a sign that I have succeeded in what I've learnt, it is actually the very beginning of what I hope will be a myriad of trials and errors that, along the way, will hopefully produce more beautiful and endearing pieces of Stoneware that can be purchased and cherished by those of you kind enough to support me in my process.

I am hesitant to call myself a potter, I feel like an imposter. Compared to those who have taught me I am a mere mortal who will never eventuate to even a skerric of what their titles represent. In saying that I must tell you in all honesty - Potters/Ceramicists/Clay makers are the MOST giving, kind, generous, loving and supportive humans that ever walked this earth. Everyone I have connected with through the medium of clay have been nothing but pure kindness, the type that warms the soul. (It must be all those hot kilns)

Thanks for reading :)

K
